An issue was discovered in certain Apple products. GarageBand before 10.1.6 is affected. The issue involves the "Projects" component. It allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted GarageBand project file.

The bug was discovered 02/13/2017. The weakness was released 02/20/2017 by Tyler Bohan with Cisco Talos as HT207518 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-2374 since 12/01/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 7 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
