Details
A vulnerability has been found in Teeworlds up to 0.6.3 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function CClient::ProcessServerPacket of the file engine/client/client.cpp of the component Snap Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The CClient::ProcessServerPacket method in engine/client/client.cpp in Teeworlds before 0.6.4 allows remote servers to write to arbitrary physical memory locations and possibly execute arbitrary code via vectors involving snap handling.
The bug was discovered 11/16/2016. The weakness was presented 02/22/2017 by Felix Geyer (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-9400 since 11/17/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
