The route manager in FlightGear before 2016.4.4 allows remote attackers to write to arbitrary files via a crafted Nasal script.
The bug was discovered 12/14/2016. The weakness was released 02/22/2017 by Florent Rougon (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-9956 since 12/15/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
