A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Suricata up to 3.2.0. Affected is an unknown function of the file defrag-hash.c of the component IP Protocol Field Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability (Evasion). CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was published 02/15/2017 as Suricata IDS - IPv4 evasion as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project. It is possible to use fragmentation to enforce a policy bypass.
Upgrading to version 3.2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at suricata-ids.org. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
