Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in JustSystems Ichitaro Office (version now known). This affects some unknown processing of the component Excel File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
When processing a record type of 0x3c from a Workbook stream from an Excel file (.xls), JustSystems Ichitaro Office trusts that the size is greater than zero, subtracts one from the length, and uses this result as the size for a memcpy. This results in a heap-based buffer overflow and can lead to code execution under the context of the application.
The bug was discovered 02/24/2017. The weakness was shared 02/24/2017 by Cisco with Cisco Talos (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at talosintelligence.com.
