This issue affects the function Layout::MultiColumnBoxBuilder::HandleColumnBreakOnColumnSpanningElement in the library mshtml.dll of the component CSS Handler. Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge have a type confusion issue in the Layout::MultiColumnBoxBuilder::HandleColumnBreakOnColumnSpanningElement function in mshtml.dll, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via vectors involving a crafted Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) token sequence and crafted JavaScript code that operates on a TH element.
The bug was discovered 02/23/2017. The weakness was released 02/26/2017 by Ivan Fratric with Google Project Zero (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.chromium.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-0037 since 09/09/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
