Untrusted search path vulnerability in Amazon Kindle for PC before 1.19 allows local users to execute arbitrary code and conduct DLL hijacking attacks via a Trojan horse DLL in the current working directory of the Kindle Setup installer.
The bug was discovered 02/28/2017. The weakness was released 02/28/2017 by Nitesh Shilpkar as CVE-2017-6189-Amazon Kindle for Windows as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated with Amazon. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-6189 since 02/22/2017. An attack has to be approached locally. Required for exploitation is a authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1574 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 1.19 eliminates this vulnerability.
