A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in TigerVNC up to 1.7. This affects an unknown code block of the component Xvnc Server. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The Xvnc server in TigerVNC allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid memory access and crash) by terminating a TLS handshake early.
The bug was discovered 01/21/2017. The weakness was disclosed 02/28/2017 by Ruediger Meier and Michal Srb (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-10207 since 02/04/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
