Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Foundation Xen (Virtualization Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function vmx_set_uc_mode. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
The vmx_set_uc_mode function in Xen 3.3 through 4.3, when disabling chaches, allows local HVM guests with access to memory mapped I/O regions to cause a denial of service (CPU consumption and possibly hypervisor or guest kernel panic) via a crafted GFN range.
The weakness was shared 07/24/2013 by Zhenzhong Duan as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-2212 since 02/19/2013. The attack needs to approached within the local network. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a private exploit are known.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
