The bug was discovered 03/01/2017. The weakness was presented 03/01/2017 by P. Morimoto with SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab as SEC Consult SA-20170301 :: XXE and XSS vulnerabilities in Aruba AirWave as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Aruba. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-8527 since 10/07/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

A public exploit has been developed by P. Morimoto and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at seclists.org. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 90 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

Upgrading to version 8.2.3.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
