Remote Code Execution was discovered in FTPShell Client 6.53. By default, the client sends a PWD command to the FTP server it is connecting to; however, it doesn't check the response's length, leading to a buffer overflow situation.
The bug was discovered 03/05/2017. The weakness was published 03/10/2017 by Peter Baris as File 141456/FTP (Packetstorm). It is possible to read the advisory at packetstormsecurity.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-6465 since 03/03/2017. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed in Python. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 4 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
