A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Pharos PopUp Printer Client 9.0 (Printing Software). Affected is some unknown functionality of the component psnotifyd. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. A buffer overflows exists in the psnotifyd application of the Pharos PopUp printer client version 9.0. A specially crafted packet can be sent to the victim's computer and can lead to a heap based buffer overflow resulting in potential remote code execution. This client is always listening, has root privileges, and requires no user interaction to exploit.
The bug was discovered 03/07/2017. The weakness was released 03/10/2017 by Tyler Bohan with Cisco Talos (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-2787 since 12/01/2016. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
