A vulnerability was found in Appneta tcpreplay 4.1.2 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the file src/tcpcapinfo.c. Buffer overflow in the tcpcapinfo utility in Tcpreplay before 4.2.0 Beta 1 allows remote attackers to have unspecified impact via a pcap file with an over-size packet.
The weakness was published 03/06/2017 by AromalUllas as CVE-2017-6429: Buffer overflow vulnerability in Tcpreplay tcpcapinfo utility as not defined mailinglist post (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-6429 since 03/02/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a private exploit are known.

Upgrading to version 4.2.0 Beta 1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at seclists.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
