HPE LoadRunner before 12.53 Patch 4 and HPE Performance Center before 12.53 Patch 4 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors. At least in LoadRunner, this is a libxdrutil.dll mxdr_string heap-based buffer overflow.
The bug was discovered 03/07/2017. The weakness was published 03/07/2017 with Tenable Network Security as [security bulletin] HPESBGN03712 rev.1 - HPE LoadRunner and Performance Center, Remote Code Execution as confirmed mailinglist post (Bugtraq) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The public release has been coordinated with HPE. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-5789 since 02/01/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
