CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in uClibc-ng up to 1.0.11. This vulnerability affects the function _read_etc_hosts_r of the file libc/inet/resolv.c of the component DNS Reply Handler. The manipulation as part of a Crafted Packet leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

The __read_etc_hosts_r function in libc/inet/resolv.c in uClibc-ng before 1.0.12 allows remote DNS servers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a crafted packet.

The bug was discovered 05/02/2016. The weakness was released 03/24/2017 by Daniel Fahlgren (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-2225 since 02/05/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 85 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 92568 (Debian DLA-561-1 : uclibc security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l.

Upgrading to version 1.0.12 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (92568) and SecurityFocus (BID 82903†). Entry connected to this vulnerability is available at VDB-98505. If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
