A vulnerability has been found in Apple Safari up to 10.0 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component WebKit. The bug was discovered 11/26/2016. The weakness was disclosed 03/27/2017 by Gustavo Grieco as HT207600 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-9642 since 11/26/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The advisory points out:

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 69 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 99167 (macOS : Apple Safari < 10.1 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370349 (Apple Safari 10.1 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2017-03-27-2)).
Upgrading to version 10.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
