A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in FFmpeg up to 2.0 (Multimedia Processing Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the file libavformat/omadec.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was released 07/28/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind as oma: check geob tag boundary as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is available at git.libav.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.libav.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
