A vulnerability was found in Apple macOS up to 10.12.3 (Operating System). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component tiffutil. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2016-9535 since 11/21/2016. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The advisory points out:
An out-of-bound read existed in LibTIFF versions before 4.0.7. This was addressed by updating LibTIFF in AKCmds to version 4.0.7.

It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 157373 (Oracle Enterprise Linux Security Update for libtiff (ELSA-2017-0225)).
Upgrading to version 10.12.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
