A vulnerability has been found in Apple tvOS up to 10.1 (Digital Media Player) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component ImageIO. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The bug was discovered 03/27/2017. The weakness was published 03/27/2017 by John Villamil with Qihoo 360 Vulcan Team as HT207601 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-2432 since 12/01/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 370348 (Apple Mac OS X Security Update Sierra 10.12.4, El Capitan 2017-001 and Yosemite 2017-001 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2017-03-27-3)).
Upgrading to version 10.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
