A vulnerability was found in Honeywell Intermec up to 10.11/10.12 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file /usr/bin/lua of the component Busybox. Honeywell Intermec PM23, PM42, PM43, PC23, PC43, PD43, and PC42 industrial printers before 10.11.013310 and 10.12.x before 10.12.013309 have /usr/bin/lua installed setuid to the itadmin account, which allows local users to conduct a BusyBox jailbreak attack and obtain root privileges by overwriting the /etc/shadow file.
The bug was discovered 03/28/2017. The weakness was shared 03/29/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at apps.intermec.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-5671 since 01/31/2017. Attacking locally is a requirement. A simple authentication is required for exploitation.
