A vulnerability has been found in MantisBT up to 1.3.8/2.1.2/2.2.2 (Bug Tracking Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file adm_config_report.php of the component Configuration Report Page. The manipulation of the argument config_option with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the MantisBT Configuration Report page (adm_config_report.php) allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary code (if CSP settings permit it) through a crafted 'config_option' parameter. This is fixed in 1.3.9, 2.1.3, and 2.2.3.
The bug was discovered 03/17/2017. The weakness was disclosed 03/31/2017 by Venustech (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-7309 since 03/29/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a single authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

Upgrading to version 1.3.9, 2.1.2 or 2.2.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
