Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 1.x through 2.1 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, and Windows Server 2012 allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information about the service account, and possibly conduct account-lockout attacks, by connecting to an endpoint, aka "AD FS Information Disclosure Vulnerability."
The weakness was shared 08/13/2013 as MS13-066 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-3185 since 04/17/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
