A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in textract up to 1.4.x. This issue affects the function process of the component File Upload. The manipulation of the argument filename with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. textract before 1.5.0 allows OS Command Injection attacks via a filename in a call to the process function. This may be a remote attack if a web application accepts names of arbitrary uploaded files.
The bug was discovered 09/02/2016. The weakness was presented 04/06/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-10320 since 04/06/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
