A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in LibTIFF 4.0.7 (Image Processing Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown part of the file tif_read.c of the component Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability (Memory). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality. tif_read.c in LibTIFF 4.0.7 does not ensure that tif_rawdata is properly initialized, which might allow remote attackers to obtain sensitive information from process memory via a crafted image.
The bug was discovered 04/09/2017. The weakness was disclosed 04/09/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.maptools.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-7593 since 04/09/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks and running in the context l. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
