A vulnerability was found in ImageMagick up to 6.8.9-8 (Image Processing Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function HorizontalFilter of the file resize.c of the component Image File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The HorizontalFilter function in resize.c in ImageMagick before 6.8.9-9 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a crafted image file.
The bug was discovered 11/01/2014. The weakness was released 04/11/2017 by Hanno Boeck as Bug 1158518 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-8354 since 10/20/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 222 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
