In Wireshark 2.2.0, the NCP dissector could crash, triggered by packet injection or a malformed capture file. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/CMakeLists.txt by registering this dissector.
The bug was discovered 04/12/2017. The weakness was shared 04/12/2017 as Bug 12945 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugs.wireshark.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-7958 since 09/09/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
