A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Google Chrome 28.0.1500.95 (Web Browser). Affected by this issue is the function XSLStyleSheet::compileStyleSheet of the file xml/XSLStyleSheetLibxslt.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. Use-after-free vulnerability in the XSLStyleSheet::compileStyleSheet function in core/xml/XSLStyleSheetLibxslt.cpp in Blink, as used in Google Chrome before 30.0.1599.66, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact by leveraging improper handling of post-failure recompilation in unspecified libxslt versions.
The weakness was disclosed 08/16/2013 as 1debd636044712388392671a3202ec2e6ad08f17 as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at chromium.googlesource.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-2911 since 04/11/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The bugfix is ready for download at chromium.googlesource.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component.
