CVE-2026-101717 in Agile PLMinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/21/2026

Vulnerability in the Oracle Agile PLM product of Oracle Supply Chain (component: Security). The supported version that is affected is 9.3.6. Difficult to exploit vulnerability allows low privileged attacker with logon to the infrastructure where Oracle Agile PLM executes to compromise Oracle Agile PLM. While the vulnerability is in Oracle Agile PLM, attacks may significantly impact additional products (scope change). Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized access to critical data or complete access to all Oracle Agile PLM accessible data as well as unauthorized update, insert or delete access to some of Oracle Agile PLM accessible data. CVSS 3.1 Base Score 6.4 (Confidentiality and Integrity impacts). CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N).

The identified vulnerability resides within the Security component of Oracle Agile Product Lifecycle Management, specifically affecting version 9.3.6. This software is a critical enterprise solution used for managing product data and processes across supply chains. The flaw represents an authentication bypass or privilege escalation issue that allows attackers with low-level privileges to compromise the integrity and confidentiality of the system. Although the initial access vector requires local logon capabilities, meaning the attacker must already have some level of authenticated access to the infrastructure hosting Oracle Agile PLM, the subsequent exploitation path is relatively straightforward due to high exploitability characteristics despite a generally difficult-to-exploit classification in broader contexts. This suggests that while specific conditions or complex sequences might be required for initial foothold establishment, once those are met, the lateral movement and privilege escalation within the application layer are significant risks.

From a technical perspective, this vulnerability enables an attacker to escalate privileges from a low-privileged user account to gain unauthorized access to critical data stored within the Oracle Agile PLM database. The core issue likely involves improper validation of security contexts or insufficient separation between administrative functions and standard user operations. When exploited, it allows for complete access to all data accessible by the application, including sensitive intellectual property, supplier information, and manufacturing specifications. Furthermore, the vulnerability permits unauthorized modifications such as updates, inserts, or deletions to this data. This dual impact on both confidentiality and integrity poses a severe threat to organizations relying on Agile PLM for maintaining accurate product records and supply chain visibility. The ability to alter critical data can lead to operational disruptions, compliance violations, and potential financial losses due to incorrect manufacturing instructions or compromised supplier relationships.

The scope of this vulnerability extends beyond the immediate Oracle Agile PLM environment. As noted in the advisory, attacks may significantly impact additional products within the broader Oracle Supply Chain ecosystem. This indicates a potential chain reaction where compromising one component can lead to lateral movement into adjacent systems that share underlying databases, authentication mechanisms, or network trust relationships. Such scope changes are common in enterprise environments where integrated suites rely on shared infrastructure services. An attacker who gains control over Agile PLM data could potentially use this access point to probe for weaknesses in connected ERP modules, inventory management systems, or procurement platforms. This interconnectedness amplifies the risk profile, transforming a localized application flaw into a potential gateway for broader network compromise if proper segmentation and zero-trust principles are not strictly enforced across the supply chain technology stack.

In terms of industry standard classifications, this vulnerability aligns with CWE-269 Improper Privilege Management or potentially CWE-732 Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource, depending on whether the flaw stems from misconfigured access control lists or flawed logic in privilege verification routines. The attack vector corresponds to ATT&CK technique T1078 Valid Accounts, as it requires an attacker to possess legitimate credentials with low-level privileges before exploitation can occur. Additionally, the unauthorized data modification aspects relate to ATT&CK techniques such as T1565 Data Manipulation or T1222 File and Directory Permissions Modification. Understanding these mappings helps security teams prioritize detection rules based on known adversary behaviors associated with privilege escalation and data exfiltration from enterprise application servers.

Mitigation strategies must focus on both immediate remediation and long-term architectural improvements. Oracle has likely released a patch for version 9.3.6, which should be applied immediately to all affected instances. Beyond patching, organizations should enforce the principle of least privilege by ensuring that service accounts and user profiles have only the minimum necessary permissions required for their functions. Network segmentation is crucial; database servers hosting Agile PLM data should not be directly accessible from general corporate networks or untrusted zones. Implementing multi-factor authentication for all administrative interfaces can reduce the risk of credential-based attacks, even if local access is obtained. Regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing focused on application-layer security controls will help identify similar misconfigurations in other integrated systems within the supply chain portfolio. Monitoring logs for unusual privilege escalation attempts or bulk data access patterns can also provide early warning indicators of exploitation activity.
