CVE-2026-102699 in Xeninfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/13/2026

[This CNA information record relates to multiple CVEs; the
text explains which aspects/vulnerabilities correspond to which CVE.]

1) XSA-437 (CVE-2023-34321) addressed issues with overflows in calculations involved in guests flushing caches through GNTTABOP_cache_flush. Unfortunately the fix there introduced a calculation which may underflow, resulting in a loop which would - at least on 64-bit Arm - take excessively long, and which would likely eventually crash the hypervisor.

This is CVE-2026-102699.

2) GNTTABOP_cache_flush may be issued on memory mapped from another domain using the grant table interface. However there was no restriction to disallow the use of invalidate-without-clean against read-only grant mappings, which may corrupt the granted memory.

This is CVE-2026-102702.

Analysis

The vulnerability designated as CVE-2023-34321 originates from a regression introduced in XSA-437 within the Xen hypervisor environment. The original intent of XSA-437 was to address integer overflow issues present in calculations associated with guest cache flushing operations via the GNTTABOP_cache_flush interface. However, the corrective patch inadvertently created a new logical flaw where certain arithmetic operations could result in an underflow condition. This mathematical error triggers an infinite or excessively long loop during execution. On 64-bit ARM architectures specifically, this computational anomaly causes significant performance degradation and resource exhaustion. The sustained processing load eventually leads to a hypervisor crash, resulting in a complete denial of service for all virtual machines hosted on the affected system. This scenario aligns with CWE-190 regarding integer overflow or wraparound and represents an availability impact consistent with ATT&CK technique T1499 endpoint disruption through resource exhaustion.

A separate but related vulnerability exists within the same GNTTABOP_cache_flush mechanism, identified as CVE-2026-102702. This issue pertains to insufficient access control validation when handling memory mapped from another domain via the grant table interface. Specifically, there was no restriction preventing the use of invalidate-without-clean operations against read-only grant mappings. In virtualization environments, cache maintenance instructions must adhere strictly to the permissions defined by the underlying memory mapping to preserve data integrity. When an invalidation without clean operation is applied to a read-only mapping, it bypasses necessary coherence checks and can overwrite or corrupt the granted memory contents. This flaw allows for unauthorized modification of shared state between domains, violating the principle of least privilege and leading to potential data corruption. This vulnerability corresponds to CWE-284 improper access control and poses risks consistent with ATT&CK techniques involving lateral movement or data manipulation through inter-process communication flaws within virtualized infrastructures.
