CVE-2026-63213 in SuiteCRMinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 11/05/2026

SuiteCRM is an open-source, enterprise-ready Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software application. Prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, the Upgrade Wizard commit flow trusts the hidden zip_to_dir parameter, while clean_path() does not reject traversal sequences. An authenticated administrator can copy extracted package files outside the intended destination, overwrite application or configuration files, place executable PHP under the web root, or cause denial of service. This issue is fixed in versions 7.15.2 and 8.10.2.

SuiteCRM serves as a widely deployed open-source Customer Relationship Management platform designed to manage customer interactions and business processes for enterprises. The vulnerability identified within the Upgrade Wizard component represents a critical path traversal flaw that allows an authenticated administrator to manipulate file system operations beyond intended boundaries. Specifically, the issue resides in how the upgrade wizard handles the zip_to_dir parameter during package extraction routines. Prior to versions 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, this hidden input field was trusted without sufficient validation against directory traversal sequences such as dot-dot-slash patterns. The internal clean_path function failed to adequately sanitize or reject these maliciously crafted paths, thereby allowing the application to write extracted files into arbitrary directories on the underlying server operating system rather than restricting them to the designated upgrade destination folder.

This technical flaw enables an attacker with administrative privileges to perform unauthorized file writes that can lead to severe security compromises. By exploiting this path traversal vulnerability, a threat actor could overwrite critical application configuration files or core source code modules, potentially altering the behavior of the CRM instance in ways that facilitate further attacks or data exfiltration. More critically, the ability to place executable PHP scripts under the web root directory allows for remote code execution scenarios where malicious payloads can be triggered via HTTP requests. This effectively grants the attacker full control over the server environment hosting SuiteCRM, bypassing standard application-level access controls and potentially leading to complete system compromise.

The operational impact of this vulnerability extends beyond immediate code execution risks. An adversary could also leverage this flaw to cause a denial of service by writing large files or corrupting essential system directories, rendering the CRM instance unavailable for legitimate users. Furthermore, overwriting configuration files might allow an attacker to disable logging mechanisms or modify authentication settings, thereby establishing persistence and evading detection during subsequent malicious activities. The presence of such vulnerabilities in enterprise-grade software underscores the importance of rigorous input validation even within administrative interfaces that are typically considered trusted environments by developers but remain accessible to potentially compromised accounts.

To mitigate this risk, organizations running SuiteCRM must immediately upgrade to version 7.15.2 or later for the legacy branch and version 8.10.2 or later for the current release line where these path traversal checks have been properly implemented. Until upgrades are applied, administrators should restrict access to the Upgrade Wizard module through network-level controls such as firewalls or reverse proxy rules that limit connectivity to trusted IP addresses only. Additionally implementing strict file integrity monitoring can help detect unauthorized modifications to critical application files resulting from exploitation attempts. This vulnerability aligns with CWE-22 Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory and is often associated with ATT&CK technique T1059 Command and Scripting Interpreter if leveraged for remote code execution, highlighting the need for defense-in-depth strategies that include both patch management and runtime protection mechanisms.
