The vulnerability identified in Snipe-IT versions prior to 8.7.0 represents a critical failure in access control logic within the application's integration with Laravel Passport. Specifically, the OAuth client management routes were not properly gated by administrative privileges or sufficient authorization checks. This architectural flaw allows any authenticated user, regardless of their role level such as standard asset manager or viewer, to interact directly with endpoints designed for creating and managing OAuth clients. By exploiting this lack of proper access gating, an attacker can register new OAuth applications within the Snipe-IT instance without requiring elevated permissions that would normally be enforced by the application's business logic layer.
