A vulnerability was found in QEMU (Virtualization Software) (the affected version unknown) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function cirrus_bitblt_rop_fwd_transp_/cirrus_bitblt_rop_fwd_ of the file hw/display/cirrus_vga_rop.h. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. hw/display/cirrus_vga_rop.h in QEMU (aka Quick Emulator) allow local guest OS privileged users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and QEMU process crash) via vectors related to copying VGA data via the cirrus_bitblt_rop_fwd_transp_ and cirrus_bitblt_rop_fwd_ functions.
The bug was discovered 04/19/2017. The weakness was presented 04/20/2017 with Huawei (oss-sec). The advisory is available at openwall.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-7718 since 04/12/2017. Local access is required to approach this attack. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 170142 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update for qemu (SUSE-SU-2017:1774-1)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.qemu-project.org. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
