Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in LAME up to 3.99.5. This issue affects an unknown code of the component Audio Header Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
LAME through 3.99.5 relies on the signed integer data type for values in a WAV or AIFF header, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (stack-based buffer overflow or heap-based buffer overflow) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted file, as demonstrated by mishandling of num_channels.
The bug was discovered 05/02/2017. The weakness was released 05/02/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at sourceforge.net.
