A vulnerability has been found in Foxit Reader up to 8.2.0 (Document Reader Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the component Font Handler. Foxit Reader before 8.2.1 and PhantomPDF before 8.2.1 have an out-of-bounds read that allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted font in a PDF document.
The bug was discovered 11/14/2017. The weakness was disclosed 05/03/2017 by Ashfaq Ansari (Website). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-8455 since 05/02/2017. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
Upgrading to version 8.2.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
