A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Edge on Win10 (Web Browser) (version now known). It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown processing of the component Scripting Engine. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that the Chakra JavaScript engine renders when handling objects in memory in Microsoft Edge. The vulnerability could corrupt memory in such a way that an attacker could execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user.

Applying the patch 4016871 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at catalog.update.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
