OpenVPN versions before 2.3.15 and before 2.4.2 are vulnerable to reachable assertion when packet-ID counter rolls over resulting into Denial of Service of server by authenticated attacker.
The bug was discovered 05/12/2017. The weakness was released 05/12/2017 with QUARKSLAB as confirmed changelog (Website). The advisory is shared at community.openvpn.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-7479 since 04/05/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
