A vulnerability was found in LibRaw up to 0.18.1 (Image Processing Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function parse_tiff_ifd of the file internal/dcraw_common.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. An error within the "parse_tiff_ifd()" function (internal/dcraw_common.cpp) in LibRaw versions before 0.18.2 can be exploited to corrupt memory.
The bug was discovered 03/10/2017. The weakness was released 05/16/2017 by Jakub Jirasek with Secunia Research (GitHub Repository). The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-6886 since 03/14/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
