Quick Emulator (Qemu) built with the VirtFS, host directory sharing via Plan 9 File System(9pfs) support, is vulnerable to an improper access control issue. It could occur while accessing virtfs metadata files in mapped-file security mode. A guest user could use this flaw to escalate their privileges inside guest.

The bug was discovered 05/17/2017. The weakness was shared 05/17/2017 as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-7493 since 04/05/2017. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
