Details
A vulnerability was found in LibTIFF 4.0.7 (Image Processing Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component bmp2tiff. The manipulation of the argument biWidth/biHeight as part of a BMP Image leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In LibTIFF 4.0.7, the program processes BMP images without verifying that biWidth and biHeight in the bitmap-information header match the actual input, leading to a heap-based buffer over-read in bmp2tiff.
The bug was discovered 05/07/2017. The weakness was disclosed 05/21/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.maptools.org.
