A vulnerability has been found in Nagios on Fedora (Log Management Software) (version now known) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Administrator Account. The manipulation of the argument password with the input value nagiosadmin leads to a hard-coded credentials vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-798. The product contains hard-coded credentials, such as a password or cryptographic key, which it uses for its own inbound authentication, outbound communication to external components, or encryption of internal data. The Fedora Nagios package uses "nagiosadmin" as the default password for the "nagiosadmin" administrator account, which makes it easier for remote attackers to obtain access by leveraging knowledge of the credentials.
The bug was discovered 04/09/2016. The weakness was published 06/06/2017 as Bug 1295446 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-0726 since 12/16/2015. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1110.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
