A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in WordPress 3.6 (Content Management System). Affected is the function get_allowed_mime_types of the file wp-includes/functions.php. The default configuration of WordPress before 3.6.1 does not prevent uploads of .swf and .exe files, which might make it easier for remote authenticated users to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via a crafted file, related to the get_allowed_mime_types function in wp-includes/functions.php.

This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-5739 since 09/11/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a authentication. Upgrading to version 3.6.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at core.trac.wordpress.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
