A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Exim up to 4.89 (Mail Server Software). Affected by this issue is the function malloc of the component Command Line. The manipulation of the argument -p with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Exim supports the use of multiple "-p" command line arguments which are malloc()'ed and never free()'ed, used in conjunction with other issues allows attackers to cause arbitrary code execution. This affects exim version 4.89 and earlier. Please note that at this time upstream has released a patch (commit 65e061b76867a9ea7aeeb535341b790b90ae6c21), but it is not known if a new point release is available that addresses this issue at this time.
The bug was discovered 06/19/2017. The weakness was shared 06/19/2017 with Qualys (Website). The advisory is available at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2017-1000369 since 06/19/2017. The exploitation is known to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack.
