A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Apache HTTP Server up to 2.2.32/2.4.25 (Web Server). Affected is the function ap_hook_process_connection of the component mod_ssl. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. In Apache httpd 2.2.x before 2.2.33 and 2.4.x before 2.4.26, mod_ssl may dereference a NULL pointer when third-party modules call ap_hook_process_connection() during an HTTP request to an HTTPS port.
The bug was discovered 06/19/2017. The weakness was published 06/20/2017 (Website). The advisory is available at lists.apache.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-3169 since 12/05/2016.
