The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-310. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
The SSL protocol 3.0, as used in OpenSSL through 1.0.1i and other products, uses nondeterministic CBC padding, which makes it easier for man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain cleartext data via a padding-oracle attack, aka the "POODLE" issue.
The bug was discovered 10/14/2014. The weakness was disclosed 07/19/2017 by Security Team with Google Security Team as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - July 2017 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at oracle.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-3566. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as attacked. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79713 (Scientific Linux Security Update : nss, nss-util, and nss-softokn on SL5.x, SL6.x, SL7.x i386/x86_64 (POODLE)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Scientific Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86129 (IBM WebSphere Application Server Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21697368)-Deprecated).
