Details
A vulnerability was found in Oracle Endeca Server 7.4.0.0/7.5.0.0/7.5.1.0/7.6.0.0/7.6.1.0 and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component OpenSSL. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
The SSL protocol 3.0, as used in OpenSSL through 1.0.1i and other products, uses nondeterministic CBC padding, which makes it easier for man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain cleartext data via a padding-oracle attack, aka the "POODLE" issue.
The bug was discovered 10/14/2014. The weakness was shared 07/19/2017 by Security Team with Google Security Team as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - July 2017 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at oracle.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-3566. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
It is declared as attacked. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79713 (Scientific Linux Security Update : nss, nss-util, and nss-softokn on SL5.x, SL6.x, SL7.x i386/x86_64 (POODLE)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Scientific Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86129 (IBM WebSphere Application Server Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21697368)-Deprecated).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Zero-Day.cz (308), Tenable (79713), SecurityFocus (BID 70574†) and Secunia (SA59627†).
