The weakness was released 09/18/2013 by Subodh Iyengar and Erling Ellingsen with Facebook as APPLE-SA-2013-09-18-2 iOS 7 as confirmed mailinglist post (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at prod.lists.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-1012 since 01/10/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66810 (Mac OS X : Apple Safari < 6.0.5 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. Upgrading to version iOS 7.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
