A vulnerability was found in phpMyBackupPro up to 2.4 (Backup Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file scheduled.php. The manipulation of the argument path/filename/period as part of a Parameter leads to a code injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
phpMyBackupPro before 2.5 does not validate integer input, which allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary PHP code by injecting scripts via the path, filename, and period parameters to scheduled.php, and making requests to injected scripts, or by injecting PHP into a PHP configuration variable via a PHP variable variable.
The bug was discovered 05/04/2017. The weakness was released 07/21/2017 (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3638 since 05/04/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 78 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:scheduled.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading to version 2.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
