A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in ImageMagick up to 6.9.8/7.0.6-0 (Image Processing Software). This affects the function ReadOneMNGImage of the file coders/png.c. The ReadOneMNGImage function in coders/png.c in ImageMagick before 6.9.9-0 and 7.x before 7.0.6-1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (large loop and CPU consumption) via a crafted file.
The bug was discovered 06/24/2017. The weakness was released 07/23/2017 by Venustech with Adlab of Venustech (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at bugs.debian.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-11526 since 07/22/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. Upgrading to version 6.9.9-0 or 7.0.6-1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
