A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Synology Photo Station up to 6.3/6.7.3 (Network Attached Storage Software). Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the file PixlrEditorHandler.php. The manipulation of the argument path with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in PixlrEditorHandler.php in Synology Photo Station before 6.7.3-3432 and 6.3-2967 allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files via the path parameter.
The bug was discovered 08/07/2017. The weakness was published 08/08/2017 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at synology.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-11152 since 07/10/2017. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Upgrading to version 6.3-2967 or 6.7.3-3432 eliminates this vulnerability.
