Microsoft Edge in Microsoft Windows 10 1703 allows an attacker to disclose information due to how strings are validated in specific scenarios, aka "Microsoft Edge Information Disclosure Vulnerability". This CVE ID is unique from CVE-2017-8644 and CVE-2017-8652.
The bug was discovered 08/08/2017. The weakness was released 08/08/2017 by Liu Long with Qihoo 360 as KB4034674 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is shared at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2017-8662 since 05/03/2017. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue. The advisory points out:
An information disclosure vulnerability for Microsoft Edge exists as a result of how strings are validated in specific scenarios, which can allow an attacker to read sensitive data from memory and thereby potentially bypass Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR). By itself, this vulnerability does not allow arbitrary code execution. However, an attacker could use this vulnerability in conjunction with another vulnerability, such as a remote code execution vulnerability, to run arbitrary code on a target system.
